Research glossary
Shared language for gretpryt’s qualitative B2B guidebook — so teams stop talking past each other when they mean interviews, friction, claude rounds, or positioning.
Buying committee
The set of roles that can advance or stall a purchase. Mapped in decision-maker mapping.
Claude field method
gretpryt’s listen → cluster → challenge → phrase cycle. Full chapter: claude field methods.
Claim hygiene
Writing only what evidence can carry — no ROI guarantees, no fake representativeness.
Episode question
Interview prompt anchored in a recent concrete event rather than abstract values. See interview protocols.
Friction
Patterned hesitation with cost — not a polite preference. Types in purchase decision friction.
Inference
An interpretation layered on observation. Must be labeled separately from what was seen or said.
Observation
Recorded behavior or artifact encounter without immediate interpretation. Practice: touchpoint observation.
Pattern
Recurring mechanism across sources. Not the same as prevalence in a population. See pattern synthesis.
Positioning synthesis
Turning surviving themes into market language committees can defend. Guide: positioning synthesis.
Prevalence
How common something is in a defined population. Qualitative work rarely measures this; gretpryt does not fake it.
Probe ladder
Sequenced follow-ups that move from claim to scene to politics to residual doubt.
Touchpoint
Any place a buyer meets category meaning — site, demo, questionnaire, deck, review.
Comparison: related but not identical
| Term A | Term B | gretpryt distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Persona | Decision-maker map | Persona compresses archetypes; map shows live power and process. |
| Pattern | Prevalence | Pattern is recurrence in your corpus; prevalence needs defined population measurement. |
| Friction | Objection | Objection is spoken pushback; friction includes silent stalls and process drag. |
| Observation | Inference | Observation is what happened; inference is what you think it means. |
| Claude cycle | Brainstorm | Claude requires challenge against evidence; brainstorm does not. |
