Chapter 07 · Method spine

Claude field methods

Claude is gretpryt’s name for a field discipline: short cycles of listen → cluster → challenge → phrase. It keeps qualitative B2B research moving without sliding into ROI theater or invented prevalence.

Listen

Field intake

Interviews and observation with comparable spines.

Cluster

Mechanism groups

Affinity by how decisions stall or advance.

Challenge

Hostile review

Break weak themes with counterexamples.

Phrase

Claim hygiene

Write only what evidence can carry.

Why gretpryt names the method claude

Teams need a shared word for “do not skip the challenge pass.” Claude is that word inside this guidebook. It is not a promise of statistical power and not a substitute for ethics or consent. It is a reminder that listening and phrasing must be interrupted by deliberate doubt.

Where claude sits in the hub

During customer interview protocols, claude shows up as follow-up ladders that turn soft nouns into scenes. In market touchpoint observation, it is the skeptical walkthrough question. In qualitative pattern synthesis, it is the timed hostile review. In positioning synthesis, it is claim hygiene — refusing ROI and fake representativeness.

Running a claude workshop

  • Timebox: 90 minutes, four beats, one theme owner.
  • Bring raw cards, not polished slides.
  • Assign a challenger who did not write the theme.
  • Record what died, what survived, and what needs more field time.
  • End with phrases marked provisional until touchpoints are rechecked.

Guardrails

Claude does not authorize leading interviewees, fabricating quotes, or converting five conversations into market percentages. Pair the method with U.S. research ethics and gretpryt’s privacy practices. For vocabulary, see the research glossary.

Claude is a brake and a metronome — not a megaphone.
